How to Dress for a Day on the Oregon Coast.
The Oregon coast can be tricky to dress for. It’s chilly. It’s wet. But it’s amazing, so you want to make sure you’re dressed properly to enjoy it.
Here’s are a few essential pieces of footwear/clothing that I bring with every time I go to the coast, regardless of season. (Items that can be found lightly-used at EGT will be marked with a “*”)
Waterproof shoes/hiking boots*
In my opinion, waterproof shoes and/or hiking boots are essential on the coast. Whether you’re exploring tidepools, hiking around the mossy trail-systems, or just cruising around town, the coast stays pretty wet. You’re bound to step in a puddle, or get caught in a full on downpour. Keeping your feet dry will keep you warm and happy for your whole stay. Plus, if the sun comes out, you can leave the boots in the car and go barefoot on the beach.
Warm mid-Layer*
A wool sweater, fleece hoodie, or lightweight puffer will get the job done! For the majority of the year, the coast stays pretty gloomy and chilly. Not crazy cold, but you’ll want a solid mid-layer to keep you warm underneath your waterproof shell.
Gore-tex rain jacket*
Having a good waterproof shell on the coast is absolutely necessary. I think Gore-tex is the way to go for almost any situation in Oregon as it’s both extremely breathable and waterproof.
Beanie*
It’s always good to have a beanie on the coast. Doesn’t have to be anything fancy. That old one your grandma crocheted will work just fine. I guarantee you’ll use it when the wind picks up.
