Everyone Has Fun at Carpenter’s Bypass

Biking in town is good. Drive 20 miles southwest and it’s damn near perfect.

Carpenter’s Bypass (also commonly known as Whypass) is a 19-mile-long trail system just off the beaten path in Lorane, Oregon. Within this beautifully connected network of trails, you’ll find fast clay, big berms, small drops, big step-ups, and everything in between.

With over 160 mountain-bike trails listed on Trailforks, you could spend a whole weekend exploring trails, and still leave with a to-do list.

Here are a few of our favorite trails to get you started.

1. Y2K

A short climb up the main road from the lower lot, this trail is pure lapable fun. Got a truck? Better yet! This trail is built for shuttling.

Fast straightaways, easy berms, and small table-top jumps make this trail one of the most approachable in the network. Take it slow, and it’s incredibly novice. But, this trail runs great at high speeds, making it a fun time for beginner, intermediate, and advanced riders alike.

2. Hit Parade

This burn-and-turn blue trail is a great place to start if you’re newer to jumping. Two minutes of downhill will take you through about 10 table-top jumps of varying sizes with rollers and berms to pump hard in between.

With only 98 feet of descent, a quick climb back to the top makes this trail highly addicting.

3. Ode to Joy

Pedal hard from your car in the top lot straight into a 10 ft rock-garden gap that kicks off this super rad progression trail. Throughout the trail you’ll find tree stump and rock gaps, small doubles (gap jumps), rock gardens, and a small step-up. The best part – like most trails at whypass, all techy features are optional and easily avoidable.

Feeling good on your bike now? Take an early exit out of Ode to Joy straight into whypass’ most techincal trail…

4. The Gift

It’s our absolute favorite trail in the forest.

Drop in straight from the upper lot, or after the first (and most fun) section of Ode to Joy. Either way, this double-black starts off with a medium.5 sized drop, to build speed, and set the tone.

This machine-built jump trail brings you speeding through the forest’s biggest table-top, and step-up jumps. Big berms, drops, and rollers fill the white space, making this trail highly exhilarating.

Take it slow and the wide, packed clay makes for a beginner friendly ride. Trust the machine-built quality, and take it fast to experience one of the flowiest trails in the valley.

Remember to ride with a friend, and within your abilities. Now, go have some fun!
